Michael Johnson is Senior Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Capital One Financial Corporation, where he leads and manages Information Security and Risk Management. Michael partners closely across all of the diversified banking company’s business lines on security innovation, cloud security engineering, cybersecurity operations,and architecture and standards.
Michael joined Capital One after nearly two years as the US Department of Energy (DOE) Chief Information Officer (CIO) where he led cybersecurity, cyber enterprise integration, enterprise information resources management, cyber supply chain risk management, and headquarters information technology operations. Michael had cross-organizational leadership roles serving as DOE’s senior agency official for privacy, records management, and information sharing and safeguarding.
Michael joined DOE after serving as the Assistant Director for Intelligence Programs and National Security Systems in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In that role, Michael was a principal contributor to the formulation and standup of the White House National Strategic Computing Initiative (NSCI).
Prior to that, he led cyber for national security systems and information sharing and safeguarding as Chief Scientist at the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Intelligence and Analysis. Before that Michael served as the first Deputy Associate Director of National Intelligence for Information Sharing and Deputy Intelligence Community Information Sharing Executive in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).
